Getting something new is always a great experience. However, it usually means that the old version of that thing has broken, cracked or stopped working. There comes a time when we must also examine ourselves to determine if we still harbor old things. Our hearts guide our decisions. A heart that is led by God can lead us to great things but if we are stuck with an old, deceitful heart it can get us into hot water.  How can we recognize if we are still harboring an old heart?

The old heart is….

Hateful

Spiteful

Envious

Negative

Doesn’t forgive

Doesn’t want to change

That is why God says, ‘I need to give you a new heart.’ Imagine the Spirit of God attempting to enter a heart filled with all of these things? There won’t be any space for Him. Maybe you say, ‘I’ve tried changing but I can’t.’ If this is your case, then it’s time for a spiritual surgery.

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.  I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.” Ezekiel 36:26-27

So how then can we achieve this new heart? Let us take it step by step. God will put a new spirit within us (He will give us a new mindset). He will put His Spirit within us (the Holy Spirit). As a result of having His Spirit, you will be able to not only know the Word of God but have the strength to live it.

You can ask God to take away your old heart and give you a new one. Maybe before, you tried to change on your own to no avail. When God transforms your life, it is a permanent change. It starts with receiving a new heart. Ask God to remove your old heart and give you the one promised in His word.

May the God of the Bible bless you,
