Two things
Imagine someone owning a spring of water, leaving it and going to the desert!
Or exchanging a fountain of clear water for sewage!
This is what people do when by their emotions and ungrateful heart leave Jesus.
For My people have committed two evils:
They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters,
And hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water. Jeremiah 2:13
By Taking care of your faith,
You are taking care of your salvation.

This is VERY strong, especially if you read the verse before and after. The word hewn does not give justice to the scripture. So many people do this, (axe, chop, strike) even in the work of God, remove themselves from the presence of God. To me, that is ludicrous, insanity!! Why would anyone in their right mind do that? The answer is just one, they have no longer allowed the Holy Spirit to harmonize w/in them and it it started w/that little baby step in the WRONG direction!! That one evil thought sprouting. Sad. This is a reminder to us ALL!
So true, it sounds illogical when described like this… but still happens when emotions are in charge
