“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

(Ephesians 6:13)

The armor God provides for the citizens of His Kingdom is a weapon of attack and defense against the schemes of the kingdom of darkness. His command is to put on the whole armor of God. Not just part of it! Each piece of the armor of God has a specific function. None are more or less important than the other. An absence of a piece of armor could cause a fatal breach in the war against evil.

No soldier goes to war wearing only part of his armor. I say this because there are Christians that actively use only parts of their armor while neglecting others. Read Ephesians 6:14-17 and meditate on the items that our heavenly armor consists of:

“Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

By putting on this armor, we’re able to stand firm on the evil day. This evil day comes for everyone. It’s the tribulations and persecutions that demand the most of our faith. If we resist and stand our ground on the evil day, not by the strength of our arms but by the practice of God’s Word, we’ll be able to overcome everything and remain unshakeable.

Nothing else in this world can give us such spiritual resilience. Only those who build on the Rock (Jesus) can be sure that they’ll overcome everything and stand. They’re the overcomers.

Put on the whole armor of God.
