Do you remember the last time you had the flu? How did your body feel? Weak, tired, no desire to leave the bed, no desire to eat or do anything. And depending on how bad it was, even the medicine didn’t help.

Spiritually it is the same. When a person is far from God, they become spiritually sick. They catch a spiritual flu. And when they are spiritually sick, they don’t have strength to resist the enemy or overcome sin and problems. It’s like the story in the Bible about the time that the Ark of Covenant was stolen… the daughter in law of the priest got so sick that she had a miscarriage and died (the full story is written in 1 Samuel chapter 4). But look at what it says happened to her…

Now his daughter-in-law, Phinehas’ wife, was with child, due to be delivered; and when she heard the news that the ark of God was captured, and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and gave birth, for her labor pains came upon her. And about the time of her death the women who stood by her said to her, “Do not fear, for you have borne a son.” But she did not answer, nor did she regard it. 1 Samuel 4:19-20

Look at what a great impact the lost of the Ark had on her.

The Ark is God’s presence. You can lose everything in life and regain it, but to lose God’s presence is worst than death. It is the single most important thing anyone can take possession of.

So value it, seek it, and do not exchange it for anything in this world.

May the God of the Bible bless you
