Would you trust someone who always changes their mind? One moment they say yes and the next, no. You are never quite sure where this person  stands because their mind, opinion, and answers always change. They are never certain of anything.

This person is not a man or woman of their word.

Our word is so important. Nowadays, everything requires a legally binding document as proof that you will do what has been agreed between you and another party. However, in Biblical times there were no contracts. Agreements would be solely based on a persons word. By making a vow and keeping it.

It’s as the Bible describes:

If a man makes a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth. (Numbers 30:2)

Making a vow means giving your word. When you make a vow to a person or to God (though you should refrain from making vows to people, and reserve them exclusively for God) it is as if you are writing it in stone, and it can not be erased.

God has made many vows with man, from the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation. Whenever we see the Bible refer to a promise that the Lord made, it was a vow and He never breaks His word.

However, as humans, we tend to make many promises (vows) to others and to God and in the end break them. In times of crisis, in moments when we are in need of an immediate answer or blessing, we quickly vow in order to see a result, but with no intention of fulfilling it.

On the other hand, when a person makes a true vow, giving the entirety of themself and making it an obligation, no matter what happens, nothing will change their mind. These are the vows that change a persons life.

When God sees you keeping your word. He keeps His word to you.

May the God of the Bible Bless You,

Bishop Joshua Fonseca
