Everyday we do things to take care of ourselves, and behind every effort we make, there is a reason.

For example: when we eat, we give our body the food that it needs. When we drink water, we hydrate our body. When we take a shower, we clean our body. When we brush our teeth, we are caring for our mouth health.

There is a reason for everything we do in life.

But what is the reason for holding a grudge against someone?

You may have a hundred reasons to hate a person. You may have uncountable reasons for choosing not to forgive. But you should also know that the Bible gives us many reasons to let go and forgive.

One of the most important reasons is written below:

“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Matthew 6.14-15

Forgiveness is a decision that you make through an act of faith.

This is the best action that you can take, if for no other reason than the one that the Lord Jesus gave.

Though forgiveness is the right thing to do, you can be sure that your heart may not be willing to do it. That’s why it’s essential to take this first step:

Say a prayer and the name of all of the people you need to forgive. Ask God to bless their lives. It won’t be easy, but the Holy Spirit will see your effort and help you to actually forgive and consequently move on with your life – another good reason to forgive is that you cannot move forward whilst still looking backwards and living in the past.

It takes a strong person to do this. And I believe you are strong enough to do so.

Go on, take that important and oh so beneficial decision to forgive.

May the God of the Bible bless you,

Bishop Joshua Fonseca
