“And Saul said to David, ‘You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.’ But David said to Saul, ‘[…] Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.’ Moreover David said, ‘The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.’”

(1 Samuel 17:33,34,36,37)

When David accepted the challenge, he heard a resounding “NO” from the king himself, who said, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth” (1 Samuel 17:33). What if David had felt intimidated? It was the insults against the ARMY OF THE LIVING GOD that created a burning anger of revolt inside of  him. He was sure that God was with him and that he would win.

David wasn’t an experienced warrior. He was a boy, a shepherd. How would he prevail in a battle against a giant soldier with years of experience? Goliath was a true war hero. By saying “no” to David, Saul showed him just how big his problem was.

But David wasn’t fazed. His answer revealed the Source of his courage. He said, “The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine” (1 Samuel 17:37). God is the One who wins the battle, and your courage is what makes you a tool in His hands for victory. Don’t be intimidated. Go ahead. Your victory will come from God Himself. All you have to do is believe, depend on Him, and act according to the direction you receive from His Spirit. This direction comes in the form of an assurance, the conviction that it’s the right thing to do.

Use your faith and don’t be intimidated.
