Have you ever bought anything online? In the photos that dress, those sneakers, that gadget looked so impressive, but when the delivery date finally arrived and all your excitement had built up, you opened the box to find that it was nothing like it appeared online. In that moment when you clicked “place order” you were so happy to get that new thing, but unfortunately, it was nothing like it seemed. This is often the reality we face when we use our heart.

There’s nothing worse than doing something based on your emotions, only to face the dire consequences later. But the Bible does warn us about this:

“The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?”
Jeremiah 17:9

All of our emotions are rooted in the heart and because of this they can deceive us into making the worst decisions.

The Bible warns us about its deceit. If we listen to this warning then we have the opportunity to make different choices.

The mind on the other hand is full of reasoning, and wisdom if we allow our thoughts to be led by God.

While our hearts lead us to do what feels good for a moment, the mind directs us to do what will be good for us in the long run.

Perhaps you have been led by your heart and your life is a result of that. Take your heart out of the equation and allow God to take control of your decisions, ask Him to fill your mind up with His thoughts. And start to live your life based on what the word of God says and not what you feel. That’s the true path to happiness.

May the God of the Bible bless you!
