Picture yourself in a dark place. Let us say everything is pitch black and you cannot even see your own hands in front of you. What is the one thing that you would want more than anything at that moment? Light! Whether it is a big beam of light, or a little streak of light, you know that as soon as there is light, you will be able to see where you are. You will not risk falling or getting hurt.

When a person is in darkness – spiritual darkness that is – they crave the light. This darkness that seems to cover their life causes them to live a life of appearances. They want the light but do not want to first get rid of the darkness. What could this darkness be? Pride! This is why we have so many Christians in the world living a fake life. Pretending they are ‘ok’ or ‘good’ when in reality, they are miserable.

“I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

(John 8:12)

Our Lord Jesus said it clearly – He is the Light of the world. The other things that glitter and shine will not cast the darkness out! Having one foot in worldly pleasures and the other foot in a church will not cast the darkness out! Showing a fake smile in front of others will not cast the darkness out! The only One who can cast out this darkness is the Spirit of God.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep.”

(Genesis 1:1,2)

There was a clear ‘before and after’ when the earth was created. Before the Spirit of God, the earth was in darkness. But after God said,

‘Let there be light’; and there was light.”

(Genesis 1:3)

The darkness was removed, and the earth was never the same again. This is what God wants to do in your life. He wants to remove darkness from your life and replace it with light. The light of peace, strength health, and happiness. For those willing to sacrifice their will and do what He instructs, this light will shine in their life forever.
