There are some things in life that we just can’t afford to let go of: The lessons of old that you were taught by your grandparents, showing respect to your elders, offering your seat to them when needed. Honoring your mother and father, speaking when you are spoken to… etc. These are simple lessons, but vital for your upbringing. And one day these qualities will make all the difference in society!

On the other hand, there are many things in life that you need to let go of. Grudges, past hurts, failures, bad habits, and so forth.

Imagine someone holding onto barbed wire and refusing to let it go even though it is cutting into their flesh? That would be considered as self-harm and would even cause you to question the mental health of that person.

Keeping this example in mind, take a look at this Bible passage:

“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” Matthew 6:14

If you find yourself holding onto the pains and betrayals (the barbed wire) of your past, you will never be able to enjoy a life of peace – until you let go. Unforgiveness is like a cancer that eats you away.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying it’s easy to forgive, but I am saying that it is possible, and in doing so (letting go) you will start the long overdue healing process that you’re longing for.

The best part of letting go is that you give the Lord free access to work in your life. You are giving yourself access to His mercy and grace through His forgiveness, as you choice to forgive and let go.

Trade in your bitterness and pain for His peace and serenity today.

May the God of the Bible bless you!
