“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name; who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
(John 1:12,13)
Not all human beings are children of God. Only those who are born of God are His children. There’s no human interference. In the same way that the Spirit of God conceived Jesus, He continues to conceive children today.
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” (Romans 8:14)
In other words, only those who are led by the Spirit of God are His children. Those who aren’t led by the Spirit of God are not His children. His children obey His command, but the children of the world insist on saying that everyone is a child of God. Don’t be fooled. A child inherits their father’s characteristics, and so those who are children of God (those who are led by the Spirit of God) inherit His characteristics, which are: “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Galatians 5:22,23).
If you’re not a child of God, you now have an opportunity to receive power to become a child of God. It doesn’t matter whether or not you had a father growing up, whether or not you know your biological father, whether or not he was good to you, you now have an opportunity to be the child of the best Father in the world and experience what it is to be truly loved by your Father.
And if you’re a child of God but haven’t allowed the Spirit of God to lead you, what kind of child are you? If you’re a child of God but don’t have your Father’s characteristics, what kind of child are you? The Father’s best and greatest promises are reserved for His children.
Take this opportunity to become a child of God.
