“Don’t touch that!” “Don’t do that!” “Come here.” “Go there.” It seems like as children we were just bossed around – and as we grew older nothing much has changed: There is a set time to clock into work, rules on the road as a driver, your doctor telling you what you can and cannot eat… Our lives seem to be bound by rules. It’s easy to see those rules as burdens; but imagine life without them.

Perhaps you would have severe burns on your body if you hadn’t listened to your mom when she told you not to touch the hot stove. You may have been fired for not getting all your work done if you were able to go in and out of work as you please. Imagine the accidents if there were no rules of the road.

Chaos.

Plain and simple. That is what God tried to prevent when He gave the first ever rule.

“But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.” Genesis 3:3

We all know the end result of that. Blame was thrown around, regret, shame and thousands of years later we still suffer the consequences. There is no disobedience without consequence and the consequence is always bitter.

God speaks to each and every one of us and it’s our job to obey. When we do the results are miraculous but when we don’t we have no one to blame and no one to be angry with, the consequences are ours.

Obey. Plain and simple.

If you need to get back on track and want to start living in obedience to God. It’s not too late. Find a quiet spot and speak to Him. God wants to welcome you back and lead you towards a blessed life.

May the God of the Bible bless you!
