We know that envy has existed since the beginning of time. As Adam and Eve began growing their family, envy found its way in the midst. The jealousy that Cain had towards his brother, Able, led him to the ultimate betrayal; murder. Envy has been destroying people’s families, lives marriages, finances and devastating the life of many, even to this day.

Many do not understand why they experience the problems they do. They were at the peak of their life and suddenly it all came tumbling down. It all started with one comment, disguised as even a compliment:

“I wish I had a family like yours.”

“Your job is the job of my dreams.”

“I wish I had a husband as dedicated as yours.”

It sounds like the highest forms of praise but deep inside this person did not have good intentions towards you. They coveted what you had and soon you began to see things going downhill.

Unfortunately, envy is everywhere, at times undetectable. It’s as the word of God says:

Wrath is cruel and anger a torrent, But who is able to stand before jealousy? (Proverbs 27:4)

A person can stand before a person in anger, in bitterness but how can a person stand before jealousy when it is hidden in the heart of someone close; a family member, friend, coworker? You can not know the desires of someone’s heart but God can. This is why it is important to protect what you have. While you can not control others having envy towards you, you can be on the lookout for envy and turn to God. True deliverance comes from seeking God. He sees what lives within a person and with His help you can overcome the silent weapon called envy.

May the God of Bible bless you.
