If you look up to someone (especially someone older than you), you respect and admire them and view them as a role model.
Some people have their parents as role models. Others look up to sports players who started from the bottom and become very successful, etc.
Whoever you consider as a role model, you undoubtable follow in the footsteps of that person. You study their story, behavior, character and actions.
In the Bible, God speaks of someone that we all should look up to.. actually two people.
“Look to Abraham, your father,
And to Sarah who bore you;
For I called him alone,
And blessed him and increased him.” (Isaiah 51:1-2)
Here, God shows us that the best person to look up to is someone who fears Him, is faithful in their life and actions, and is blessed by God Himself. Abraham was all of those things. And because of that, God blessed him greatly.
Perhaps you have followed in the wrong footsteps, and because of that your life is not moving forward. Follow the footsteps of Abraham and God will bless you greatly, just like He blessed him.
And “what are the footsteps of Abraham,” you might ask? Faithfulness and willingness to give up any and everything for God.
