There are people in our lives who we can look up to. As children that may have been a parent or an older sibling. As we got older it became a successful person in our life or perhaps someone who we didn’t know but it seemed they had life all figured out. What makes someone a good example?
Well, the Bible teaches us that we should look to Abraham. It’s not often the Bible tells us to look to anyone’s example, other than the Lord Jesus’. So why then was Abraham so special?
“Listen to Me, you who follow after righteousness, you who seek the LORD: Look to the rock from which you were hewn, and to the hole of the pit from which you were dug. Look to Abraham your father, and to Sarah who bore you; For I called him alone, and blessed him and increased him.” Isaiah 51:1-2
Abraham was a true example of righteousness, obedience, and faith. Through his obedience to God, Abraham achieved the life that we all, one day, hope to achieve. Every area of his life was a blessing because he had an unwavering trust in God and a faith that could not be shaken. Abraham was right before God and so he can be used as a biblical example of what it means to have a life with God. God found Abraham righteous. in everything he did; from the moment he left his family behind, to his last day on earth.
This does not mean that he was perfect or that we should worship him. On the contrary, it shows us that we are also able to achieve this life because Abraham was human just as we are. If you have been wavering in your faith and believe that your life will never change then do as God is instructing us to do: Look to Abraham. Look at the life that he lived, the struggles that he faced, and how he conducted his life before God. See how his complete life can become your complete life by following his example.
