The worst thing a person can do, is to live in the past. Unless you are drawing lessons from your experience, it is time to move forward.

The relationship has long finished and yet you spend hours every day reminiscing on what could have been.

You were too shy to speak up during the interview and now you regret not saying what you should have said.

Your family is scattered, kids are running wild and you can’t help but wonder where you went wrong, what you would have done given another chance.

If you want to irritate God, then spend time crying and whining about a situation. Moses thought his tears would get God’s help, and he had major problems! He was being chased by more than 600 Chariots, horsemen and an army – they were out for blood. And then he had all those people complaining about what they should have done. It was a lot to deal with! But look at the response he got from God:

“And the Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.” Exodus 14:15

We serve a logical and practical God who isn’t swayed by emotions. Your tears will not bring back what you have lost. Your tears will not repair years of damage. Your tears will not give you a clean slate. But your faith can.

Faith pushes you forward, it never takes you back to the past, to your mistakes or to old problems. Faith helps you look past all of that; it reminds you that nothing is impossible for God, that even if your situation looks frightful today, tomorrow it will be better.

What’s done, is done. There is no point crying over spilled milk.Mop it up and move along.

May the God of the Bible bless you.
