I can’t count how many times I’ve heard a parent say, “my son only calls me when he needs something.” Or, whenever my daughter comes to give me a huge, I know she is about to ask me for money”. There are many variations of this scenario, but they end up the same. A person comes with kind words and big smiles when it’s time to ask a favor. But the same person doesn’t so much as give you a “hello” when things are good.

It’s hurtful and offensive. But it’s exactly how many people treat God. They only call on Him when they are in trouble. When they get a promotion or some other good news, they want to thank the friends and family and go out to party with them. But when they get fired or go through some big challenge, then they call on God.

The word of God speaks on this when it says,

Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, Before the difficult days come,

(Ecclesiastes 12:1)

It’s not at all that God doesn’t want to help you when you are in trouble. But it says that you should remember Him BEFORE you get into trouble. That’s the point. He is a very present help to those in need. But He does not want to be used and treated like an ATM machine that you only go to to take money out of, but ignore once you have the money in hand.

Remember God always. Put Him first in your life during good times and bad. And He will not cease to bless and take care of you.

May the God of the Bible bless you
