Imagine a surgeon performing an important procedure surrounded by distractions: People talking, music playing, a train traveling overhead, someone in the corner playing a video game, and his phone ringing from across the room. Although well trained, he would need to be hyper-focused so as to not miss one detail. After all, there is a life in his hands.
You also hold a life in your hands: yours. There are things you do every day that ensure your continued physical survival, and the same goes for your spiritual survival. For example, living a life of prayer keeps you connected with God.
Reading your Bible is also crucial to your spiritual life. Think of your surroundings when you are reading. Are you reading while surrounded by noise? Reading but also thinking about all of the things you have to do later? It’s easy to become distracted, but those few moments in a day when you read God’s word are so important.
“I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet” Revelation 1:10
When completely focused, this is the kind of experience to expect. God’s voice is like a loud voice when His Word is revealed. Take a moment to pray and ask for direction; don’t rush or be surrounded by distractions. Give God your undivided attention because He has something special prepared for you.
May the God of the Bible bless you!
