When making a dish to taste just right, there are certain ingredients that you know must be included. If one thing is missing it throws everything off and can even spoil the entire recipe. The same goes for life. There are many who think that the recipe for a good life and a happy future, is in the goods that they have. They fight so hard to have riches and good health and everything seems to be going well – until it doesn’t! They wake up one morning to find that everything that they thought was good in their life has disappeared. All that hard work, down the drain!
There is no assurance for the future in this lifetime. We all know that money comes and goes. Exercise and a great diet cannot prevent our inevitable death, relationships grow cold and are no longer ‘til death do us part’. Only the Holy Spirit can guarantee our future in this life.
“And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Acts 1:4-5
We all have two sides to our thoughts: the side that thinks rationally and the side that thinks emotionally. Many times, our thoughts and decisions are clouded by our emotions. However, the Holy Spirit guides us to make the decisions that lead us down the right path. This is why He is the only true guarantee we have for our future. He doesn’t allow us to fall under the weight of this world.
Wealth, love, health and plans for the future are things that we must strive to have, but don’t get lost in these things. Don’t allow your sense of security to come from material goods. Remain focused on the true guarantee for your future, which is the Holy Spirit. Put Him first and He will take care of you, both in this life and the next.
