Think about moving into a new apartment. Boxes are everywhere. The walls are empty. You know it’s supposed to become home, but right now it just feels cold and empty. Nothing seems settled yet.

Before God spoke light, order, and beauty into creation, there was emptiness and disorder. Yet the Spirit of God was already there, moving over what looked incomplete. Sometimes we think our emptiness means God has abandoned us. But in Genesis, we are reminded that God often begins His greatest work in places that seem void.

Life can feel unfinished sometimes. You expected a close family, but relationships fail. You thought your finances would stabilize by now, but you’re still struggling. Maybe you imagined a completely different version of your life than the one you wake up to every morning.

In those moments, life can feel formless—like an empty room. That’s what life feels like when we’re trying to build it without the fullness of God’s Spirit. But God wants to fill you up and make you complete.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” Genesis 1:1–2

Today, the Spirit of God no longer only hovers nearby. Through Christ, He fills us. When we seek Him, He brings His presence into the empty spaces of our lives by transforming us within.

Unlike temporary things that can leave us—money, people, plans, or seasons—God’s presence remains.

Your life may not look the way you expected, but that does not mean it is without purpose. The same Spirit that moved over the waters in Genesis is still moving today — and now, He dwells within those who seek Him.

May the God of the Bible bless you!
