I’m sure you’ve succeeded at something in your life. Success is a great feeling, but the idea of what it means to be truly successful is far from just feeling great.

Nowadays, life feels like a long-distance marathon. The glory of those who win is a collection of trophies, plaques and notable achievements. That is why most people are running around after the ideal body, a successful career, financial freedom, building a great family, receiving an award, becoming famous, earning a degree, etcetera. One normally believes that these types of accomplishments will give closure to their desires, but in reality, it will be fleeting at best.

Let’s say, that over the years you have worked very hard and finally succeeded professionally. Now you are enjoying the thrill of a brilliant career, but to your surprise, there is an emptiness inside of you (a lack of true happiness). The sadness of your soul hurts to the point that you feel like the pain is real. Almost to the point of being able to touch it. Then you realize that you have failed and you are losing the race.

You can be wealthy, intelligent, successful, belong to a church, and hold a collection of achievements. However, if you fail in knowing God, you fail in everything else.

Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me…” Jeremiah 9:23-24

True glory and achievement is in truly knowing God. By doing so, the happiness, joy, and inner peace will not be momentary. Dedicate yourself to that and you will pursue your most significant accomplishment: The salvation of your soul.

May the God of the Bible bless you,

Bishop Joshua Fonseca
