A good friend is dependable, caring and trustworthy. Of course there is a long list of other characteristics that I could go on and on about, but how do we really know when something is good? Some chalk it up to a “ gut feeling” or “intuition.” But in reality, what we see is what we get. When something is good, it shows through the signs: it brings good rewards, it makes us better, it brings us good results. It is actually beneficial to us.

God felt this way when He saw the light that He spoke into existence.

“Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.”  Genesis 1:3-4

God saw that the light was good, and He made a distinction between light and darkness. And till this day, there is a clear distinction. Light represents everything that is good in our lives, and darkness represents everything that is bad or dangerous or evil.

Perhaps there has been a form of darkness in your life and you recognize it. The sadness that you feel, the brokenness, the hopeless feeling that you can’t seem to shake. Maybe the darkness is all around you. In your family, your health, financially, etc. You can clearly see it there.

God wants to light up your life!  He wants to “divide” this darkness from you (meaning separate it from you) and allow His light to shine in your life. But in order for Him to that, He needs you to be sincere and recognize that there is some darkness there. You don’t need to look down on yourself, or consider yourself a loser. You just need to recognize that there is a situation that needs fixing, and let God work on it.

When God declares His light in your life, you can be sure that the darkness will flee.

May the God of the Bible bless you,
