Can you remember when you were learning the basics in school? You felt so clever knowing that two plus two equals four. How about when you learned to spell those simple three-letter words—and, the, ball, etc.? As simple as it is, you didn’t learn it all in one day. In fact, day after day and week after week, your teachers would go over the same equations and words with you so that you would never forget them. Today, without a second thought, you can solve those equations, and those words seem so small to you.
This same principle applies to the Bible. The more we study and meditate on the Word of God, the deeper our understanding grows. Have you ever gone a long time without reading the Bible? Then you know it seems very difficult to pick it back up. But why? Because you were out of practice, you hit pause in that special intimacy that comes from reading God’s word.
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night…” (Joshua 1:8)
Keep the Word of God with you every day. It will sustain you in good moments and bad. Don’t lose the basics of your faith.
May the God of the Bible bless you!
