Words can lift or weigh down, whether spoken by you or heard from others. If you grew up surrounded by negative words in your home, you know how it can feel like carrying a backpack full of bricks:
“You are good for nothing.”
“You always mess things up.”
“Big disappointment, that’s you.”
“You don’t have what it takes.”
“You’re worthless.”
“You’re so slow.”
“Why do you always have to be the difficult one?”
“You have no common sense.”
“Quitting is your thing, isn’t it?”
Ouch. It feels like a slap right in the feelings. Perhaps you’ve heard them from your parents and have caught yourself saying similar things to your children. Words have power, capable of either blessing or cursing, as the Bible says:
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” (Proverbs 18:21)
Life and death? Yeah, they’re in that little thing called the tongue. Your words are like seeds; the consequences they produce are the fruit.
Do you want to be set free from the cycle of negativity in your life and the lives of your loved ones? Start today by being careful with the words that come out of your mouth.
If you are experiencing the impact of negative words in your life, ask God to give you the Holy Spirit, and you will experience a new beginning and a new life where negative words will not affect you.
May the God of the Bible bless you!
