For many, life’s obstacles serve to prevent a person from achieving something desired. For others, life’s obstacles are meant to be overcame. It helps to us understand that there are two types of people… those who are discouraged when faced with an obstacle and those who break through barriers and make the impossible possible.

The Bible inspires us with real stories that happened in the past and today can be remembered as a milestone of achievements. One of these stories has a lot to do with overcoming obstacles:

Between the people of Israel and the Promised Land, stood the Wall of Jericho. Breaking down that barrier and achieving victory may have looked impossible to them, but it wasn’t impossible for God.

The Bible says:

“Now Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in. And the Lord said to Joshua: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand…” Joshua 6:1-2

Is there an obstacle standing between you and your happiness? Is it standing between you and your financial, family, spiritual or love life? Perhaps that obstacle is an illness, unemployment, a child in prison, a broken family, depression, or a marriage on the verge of divorce.

The good news is that just as the people of Israel won, so will you!

To overcome the Wall of Jericho, the people of Israel followed the instructions that God gave them. They could not break the walls with their own physical strength; however, dependence on and obedience to God makes all the difference.

Now you know how to overcome obstacles, the question is: are you ready to depend totally on God, or will you insist on trying to do it alone?

May the God of the Bible bless you,

Bishop Joshua Fonseca
