The handshake is the universal sign of agreement. You see it in business deals, casual plans between friends, and as a sign of trust. Unfortunately, some have made agreements in the hopes that things will get better for them but end up being deceived. This is the risk we take when making deals with man, they either come with strings attached, or simply fail. Nothing is guaranteed.
This was what happened to Abraham, in the Bible:
“Now the king of Sodom said to Abram, ‘Give me the persons, and take the goods for yourself.’ But Abram said to the king of Sodom, ‘I have raised my hand to the Lord, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, that I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich’” Genesis 14:21-23
What a human being can offer to you, is nothing compared to what God has for you. Abraham knew this and so, he refused to make a deal with the king, he knew there would be strings attached.
He made a wise decision. Although, it would have been nice to receive those goods, that king was offering temporary things. The goods would eventually get old or run out but the souls of those people were not temporary.
The king of Sodom was an evil man. Nowadays, the devil comes with similar proposals. He makes offers for you to do wrong and in return he offers temporary “goods”. But when God places His hand over someone’s life, there are no strings attached. The agreement that is made comes with an eternal guarantee. Abraham chose to do what was right and God did not fail him. When you choose to depend on God, instead of depending on the “tempting” but temporary things, He will not fail you either.
The decision is yours.
May the God of the Bible bless you
