Our eyes are located at the front of our head. Many have jokingly mentioned it as a sign that we were meant to look ahead and not behind. This is true in many instances. After a loss, getting out of a bad situation, but primarily for our spiritual life. For those who have chosen a life with God, there is no looking back. The moment that we do, there is no telling what could happen.
Do you remember the life that you had before knowing Jesus? Perhaps you say, “I remember all of the good times that I had,” but let us not sugarcoat the rest. Perhaps you have forgotten all of the sleepless nights, anxiety, depression, worries, the illnesses that Jesus healed you from, the marriage that He restored, the life that He breathed into you, and so much more.
“When the morning dawned, the angels urged Lot to hurry, saying, “Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city.” Genesis 19:15
Let us not be deceived and only remember the “glamour” of our old life. Let us not try to cling on to the past. Just as Lot’s wife did. The Bible describes her end. It wasn’t your typical ending. She turned into a pillar of salt because she decided to look back. That is the life that awaits those who turn back from Jesus. One that is stuck and lifeless. Many spiritually speaking day by day are looking back. They know the Word, they know Jesus but they continue looking back.
Do not make the mistake that lots wife did. Do not be enticed by the world that you’ve left behind. Perhaps you were thinking of going backward to old friends, old habits, the old desires of your heart. Take this as a wake-up call from the Lord Jesus. He’s reaching out to rescue you but you have to decide for yourself to keep looking forward and not backward.
“But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.” Genesis 19:26
May the God of the Bible bless you!
