Flashback for a moment to your days in school. How many things have you really applied in your everyday life? Maybe you’ve taken on a career that requires little to none of the geometrical equations you spent hours studying. Today, your children may even come to you for help and everything has already slipped from your mind, or rather, replaced by life skills and today’s problems.
The same cannot be said for what we learn from the Word of God. With so many chapters, lessons and stories there is always something new to learn. However, it’s easy to overlook the most important part: practicing what the Word of God teaches us. This is why you see people with little to no knowledge about God being very blessed, whilst others who can recite the Bible backwards, seeing little results from it. The Word of God explains it best:
“…for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” 2 Corinthians 3:6
With so much knowledge it is easy to let things slip away but the most important thing to remember is, “how can I apply this to my life?” The Word of God was never meant to be just information, but a manual for life to use in the moments of difficulties, joy, sorrow, peace, trials and all of the other instances that life has for us.
Yes, we must know and meditate on the Word. But it is of little use, if we are not practicing it. How have you been putting God’s Word into practice? Do you only obey the nice parts, or do you strive to correct yourself and adhere to the parts that seem rigid? If you are frustrated at not seeing many benefits from the Word of God, do a self-checkup and make sure that you are not spending most of your time building up knowledge and practicing little.
Use your faith to let the Word of God become a reality and see His promises come out of the Word and into your life. A whole new experience with God awaits you!
May the God of the Bible bless you,
Bishop Joshua Fonseca
