Paul and Silas were followers of Jesus and because of this, they faced many trying times. One in particular stands out in their story: They were beaten, ridiculed, stripped, and thrown into prison. However, they did not fold in the face of these hardships. Instead, they prayed and sang hymns to God.

You may be wondering how someone can react like this in the middle of such a storm. Well, you wouldn’t be alone in this thought. The Bible says the other inmates would listen to them (they probably wondered how these men could be singing and praying after what they had just been through).

It’s as the Bible says: “A glad heart makes a happy face; a broken heart crushes the spirit.” Proverbs 15:13

In spite of what was happening outside – all around them – inside they were happy. When you have the Spirit of God inside of you, depression isn’t even an issue. Think with me… throughout the Bible we see many examples of people letting God down and turning their back on Him, but have you ever heard of God being depressed or fainting because of those disappointments and trials? Of course not! So, with God’s Spirit inside of you, depression will not be a thing for you either, even when things get really tough.

Paul and Silas had this assurance: I am with God and He is with me.  When you have the Spirit of God, you will feel the same way and have the same response when facing problems.

May the God of the Bible bless you,

Bishop Joshua Fonseca
