People are so used to having second opinions. Not just from doctors, but in everyday situations.
How many opinions have you heard this past week?
The opinion of your doctor
The opinion of your husband/wife
The opinion of your neighbor
The opinion of your daughter/son
Many times because there are so many opinions, a person becomes confused. This only happens because of doubt and uncertainty.
Take for example a person that goes to the doctor for a check up: The doctor gives his diagnosis and explains the treatment plan: no doubts, nor “ifs nor buts”, but went straight to the point. I am sure that you would leave that doctor’s office with full assurance of what steps you need to take in the days to come.
On the other hand, let’s say the doctor uses a lot of maybes, ifs, buts and in the end he says he is not even sure this will solve your health problem… Without a doubt you will book an appointment for a second opinion from another doctor. Why? Because this doctor left you with doubts and uncertainty.
When there is certainly, there is no need for a second opinion.
There is only one opinion that you don’t need to question and that is God’s opinion. The Word of God is God’s opinion and it is strong.
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
When God speaks there is no room for doubts. And if you spend time reading His Word, He will direct you to the right decision. His Word should be the first and final opinion you seek. Then there will be no need to run around asking for a second opinions from those who are not sure themselves.
