“If you are traveling with a child or someone who requires assistance, secure your mask first and then assist the other person.” Sound familiar? It’s part of the safety protocol we usually hear when flying. It’s interesting to think that a parent could face such a tough decision in a difficult moment such as this, however, it’s in the best interest of those around them to care for themselves first so that they will be able to care for that loved one.
When fighting for your family, the same rule applies. After we have cared for ourselves, God equips us to care for our family.
“But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15
If we pay close attention we see that the verse says “will”, It refers to the future because perhaps at this moment your house has not begun to serve the Lord, but through your faith they will.
Maybe at this moment you are faced with an overwhelming situation in your house; a son on drugs, a broken marriage, a daughter that wants nothing to do with you and so on. Don’t allow the current situation in your home to discourage you. Remember all that God has done for you personally, remember your own overcome battles that you overcame and then take strength and have the assurance that God will do the same for your loved ones too. You know what to do to lead your family to serve God as well: Trust them into God’s hands.
This isn’t to say that you shouldn’t pray for your family while working on yourself but never lose sight of the end goal, for all of you to be together in the same faith. Don’t be discouraged, continue praying for each and every one of them because soon you will serve the Lord together.
May the God of the Bible bless you!
