For every action, there is a reaction. It can be seen in everyday life, in the actions we may not even give a second thought to. As we breathe, we inhale and our lungs fill with oxygen. As we walk, our feet lift us from step to step to our destination. A seed is planted and soon a new plant flourishes.

In the same way, when we act, God reacts. We see it on numerous occasions throughout the Bible. One verse, in particular, which we will examine today, says, “Call upon Me.”

When we pray, we are acting and as a result, God listens and reacts.

Then you will can upon Me and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. (Jeremiah 29:12)

Now, let us examine this verse:

“You will call upon Me.” This is an action taken on your part.

“And pray to Me.” Once again, an opportunity for you to act.

“And I will listen to you.” This is God’s reaction.

God listens to you. He does not take your problems, worries, stresses and concerns and file them away. He does not ignore you. He listens and He answers.

Perhaps it has been a while since you’ve taken any action with God. You may say, “God knows my problems, why do I have to say them out loud? Why do I have to act?” Because you are acting on your faith. When someone is in need of a solution, it doesn’t matter what they have to do. They act because they want a good reaction. By taking action; by calling upon God, you are expressing your faith and God will react to this faith.

May the God of the Bible bless you,

Bishop Joshua Fonseca
