What makes any relationship worthwhile? Time, communication, intimacy, mutual respect and so much more. Now, imagine a relationship solely based on exchanging gifts. Would you consider that a meaningful relationship? No. Although the two may know each other, they would know nothing about each other, there would be nothing holding them together. Think of it this way, if you take away the gifts, that relationship would fall apart.

Unfortunately, this is the situation that many are in with God. They have seen the power of God in their lives. In one way or another, they have received blessings from God. Whether it be in their family, the healing of an illness or maybe a financial breakthrough, but in spite of this, they have not made a commitment with Him.

On the outside, it may seem as though they know who God is but sadly, they only know of His power. They have no personal relationship. It’s like the disciples who walked side by side with Jesus and yet didn’t recognize Him. They heard His Word, and saw His works but they didn’t know Him intimately. They didn’t have His Spirit.

Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, “Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You not known the things which happened there in these days?” Luke 24:18

A title, length of time in a church or a position doesn’t guarantee a relationship with God. Only through the Holy Spirit can we truly know God. The disciples thought of Him as a stranger because they hadn’t received the Holy Spirit yet. Perhaps you do too but that doesn’t mean He has to remain a stranger. You can start building a real relationship with Him today. It only takes one decision. The decision to open your spiritual eyes and see Jesus as your soul’s salvation.

He is ready to live inside you; are you ready to really get to know Him?

May the God of the Bible bless you!
