All living things need these essentials in order to survive: air, water, and of course food. Usually when a person is very hungry or thirsty, anything will do. Healthy, fast food, a hot or cold drink, it won’t matter because the hunger or thirst is so great. The soul is also a living thing and needs to be fed or it will suffer a spiritual deficiency. What are the signs that a soul is thirsty?
Depression
Addiction
Anger
When the soul is in need, just as when the body is in need, anything will do. For this reason, many have tried to quench their soul’s thirst but have been unsuccessful. The party ends and they already need another. The bottle runs dry but they search for more to sustain that ‘good’ feeling. People, drugs, entertainment, riches, nothing is enough because only one thing can quench that thirst.
“My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?” Psalms 42:2
A soul is only satisfied when God enters. Nothing will ever truly satisfy a soul except Him. Perhaps you have been trying to quench your soul with everything but nothing has worked. Seek God, ask Him to fill your spirit and you will never hunger or thirst again.
