Back in the days before tractors existed, farmers would use a wooden beam to help carry or pull heavy objects. This beam would distribute the weight evenly on both shoulders and was be used by both humans and animals. It was called a yoke. Physically speaking, yokes are no longer used, but spiritually speaking many are still carrying a yoke on their shoulders.

The spiritual yoke can be compared to an intense overwhelming feeling. We’ve all been there: a stressful day at work, an exam or awaiting the results of a test can be nerve-racking and your mind has no rest. For some, this overwhelming feeling comes as a result of much bigger problems. It’s as though you are walking around with a heavy yoke on your shoulders. Only this one never comes off – it goes with you wherever you go.

This yoke can be bills that have accumulated and are still coming, a sickness or disease that is deemed incurable, a pending court case, or even the distress of a loved one. What is the yoke – the burden that you are carrying?

The Lord Jesus also has a yoke, but His yoke is easy and light; it brings deliverance: “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

Pain and suffering are not from the Lord. Satan is the one who gives a heavy burden but Jesus removes and destroys the yoke. That’s right! There is no need for you to feel overwhelmed or to go day after day feeling stressed and burdened. Do not accept Satan to bombard you with his yoke; instead, allow Jesus to set you free.

Read the verse above again. The first three words give you the key to having your problems solved and to receiving inner peace and salvation. “Come to Me”. In order for Jesus to take that burden off your shoulders, you have to go to Him. How? By entrusting your life (including your problems) into His hands. When Jesus removes the burden you carry, He is removing that family problem, that financial issue and that health concern.

God wants to help you through the storm, but you must take that first step and turn to Him.

May the God of the Bible bless you.
