Imagine where we would be if everything were up for debate—If 2 + 2 equaled 4 to some but 5 to others and if children decided their own lives and parents had to do what their children commanded. The world would be in disarray.

Unfortunately, many take this approach when it comes to the Word of God. Everything is up for debate. Similar to this woman who met Jesus face to face.

Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.
Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.
John 4:6-9

Were you to delve deeper into her story, you would see that her life was indeed in disarray, but she focused on the wrong details. Jesus brought her focus to what was truly important.

Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”
John 4:10

Jesus had something important waiting for her, but she was too busy debating—she was distracted by minor details. She delayed her own blessing of receiving His Spirit.

Perhaps you have been guilty of this. You find yourself questioning everything when God speaks to you. Challenge yourself to have open ears for the Word of God and closed lips to question not His word, because He has great things prepared for you. Let’s not delay them.

May the God of the Bible bless you!
