The best athletes know this term. The best way to truly defend one’s self is to always be on the offensive; always be ready to avoid having to get ready. This can be applied to anything in life. Stay on your toes and don’t be caught off guard.
Spiritually speaking, this is the attitude that we must all have as children of God. How can we defend ourselves? By reading and living in the word of God.
Bad thoughts will come, temptations, wrong influences, etc… The world is filled with negativity but the word of God is our defense. The Lord Jesus portrayed this when He overcame the schemes of the devil while He was here on earth. The Word was His defense and we still have access to it today.
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
