Keys? Check. Wallet? Check. Coffee? Check. ID? Check. Maybe this looks similar to your checklist before you leave the house. We try not to forget the important things. However, we often forget to make our checklist for life. I assume it would look something like this:
. Happy family? Check
. Healthy? Check
. Good relationship? Check
. Good job? Check
It seems all well and good, but do you notice anything missing? I’ll give you a moment to think…
The soul. Perhaps you can’t remember the last time you checked on your soul. You have been so focused on checking things off your list and you’ve forgotten the most important part. This is what happened to a rich man in the Bible. Take a look:
“So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.” Luke 16:22
Many think that the rich man’s problem was his riches and therefore assume that poverty will get them into heaven, but this is not the case. What secured the salvation of the beggar’s soul was the relationship he had with God. Perhaps you have been focused on increasing your riches here on earth. That is fine. God does want you to prosper, however, don’t get distracted from your main purpose. Don’t forget that one day these things will pass. That is the real problem. Putting all your effort into the check list above and forgetting to check on your spiritual life. Put God at the top of your checklist. Make Him your priority and when the time comes He will make you a priority.
May the God of the Bible bless you!
