A lot of people love music, and usually they have that one singer they really like. It’s funny how you can recognize their voice anywhere in a store, in a car passing by, or even in a short clip online. A familiar voice just stands out.
But recognizing someone’s voice doesn’t mean you actually know the person. You might know every song they’ve released, but that doesn’t mean you know who they are or what they’re like in real life.
And this is how many people treat God: They enjoy the blessings, they appreciate when a prayer is answered, they feel comfort in difficult moments… But they don’t really know Him. They know about Him, but not Him.
The Israelites went through the same thing. They saw miracles all the time: food from heaven, the Red Sea opening, water coming from a rock, but even with all that, they didn’t truly walk with God. They saw what He did, but they didn’t seek who He was.
That’s why this verse is so important: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” (James 4:8)
Getting close to God isn’t about getting emotional or seeing miracles. It’s about a relationship. It’s about choosing to talk to Him, listen to Him, and follow Him in your everyday life, not only when you’re in trouble.
And when you do that, something inside you starts to change naturally. Your reactions, your choices, your way of thinking, everything begins to shift. This is what happens when you don’t just admire God from a distance, but actually walk with Him.
So make it a priority to get close to Him. You’ll see that He’s always been close. He was just waiting for you to take the first step.
May the God of the Bible bless you!
