What happens to our finger when we dip it into a cup of boiling water? Immediately, we jump in shock, pain and panic. Something similar happens when we dip our finger or body into a tub of ice cold water.

But what happens when you encounter lukewarm water? Truth is, you do not react. You actually feel comfortable in this temperature of water. And that is exactly where the danger lies!

“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot.” (Revelation 3:15)

The problem with being lukewarm is that no help can be given to this type of person. God’s desire is that we are all hot, with the fire of His Spirit burning inside of us. However at least when a person is cold – meaning, when they do not believe in God, yet are sincere about it, then there is a way for this person to be helped. God can still come upon him or her.

But the person who is lukewarm is neither cold nor hot. They are spiritually speaking, stuck. And because they think they have a little bit of faith still to do certain things, they think that they are ‘okay.’ They no longer sacrifice their fleshly desires to obey God’s commands, but because they still come to church (on and off) they believe inside of themselves that this is enough for God.

“So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.” (Revelation 3:16)

Beware of this lukewarm faith! The kind that pretends to be okay, when it is really not. The kind that thinks that having a position in the church or material blessings means he or she is strong spiritually speaking. The kind that no longer sacrifices, fasts, or reads his or her Bible – beware.

The only way to stop being lukewarm in the faith is through sacrifice.  Sacrifice what, you may ask? Sacrificing your old life and surrendering yourself 100% to God. Not only by words, but by actions. It is by removing that comfortable and complacent mindset, in order to seek the Spirit of God with all of your strength. It is by sincerely seeking for the baptism in the Holy Spirit so that you will be hot and full of fire and faith.

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” (Revelation 3:22)

May the God of the Bible bless you
