What would you choose? A new smartphone, designer clothes, dining at a fancy restaurant, or adequate food, water, shelter, clothing, and healthcare?
There is a difference between wanting something and needing something.
When a young child asks for something, a responsible parent first assesses the needs of that child to see if what they are asking is a necessity or if it will do more harm than good.
As we grow, we are responsible for assessing our own needs. Meeting our needs brings contentment and security. On the other hand, fulfilling our wants mostly provides only temporary pleasure.
Some people do not know what they need, and that makes them look for the satisfaction that temporarily fades away in friends, parties, drugs, etc.
Now that we understand the needs of the physical body, let’s apply the same for the soul.
The Bible says: “The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him.” Isaiah 11.2
The Spirit of the Lord is a need for your soul. He should never be seen as an option. He is not someone that should be put off for later in life or someone you can neglect. Without the Spirit of the Lord, your soul lacks wisdom and knowledge and is susceptible to sadness, depression, and outbursts of anger.
If you recognize that you need a change in character or feel unfulfilled and alone despite being surrounded by many people, then perhaps you have been focusing on your soul’s wants and not on your soul’s needs. The Holy Spirit is what you need!
May the God of the Bible bless you,
