It’s easy to think we’re doing fine when life looks full on the outside. The bills are paid, the fridge is stocked, the calendar is full, yet many still walk around feeling that everything they need is present, but something feels missing.
In Luke 14:15, one of the disciples at the table with Jesus says, “Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!” Jesus replies to this statement with a deeper parable: we all receive the invitation to eat in the kingdom of God, but when life seems to be going well, many often trade that invitation in for what this world has to offer.
Jesus also had offers from this world. In Matthew 4:3–4 when tempted in the wilderness, He refused to turn stones into bread, saying, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” In other words, physical needs matter, but they are not enough—Our lives are sustained by God’s Word.
Choosing to live within the Kingdom of God is prioritizing the bread that lasts. When we make this choice, we discover that God’s Word doesn’t just tell us how to live—it gives us life.
May the God of the Bible bless you!
