Imagine a leader, whether it be of a large country or a small company—respected, confident, and accustomed to having the solution to any problem—suddenly facing a crisis that no strategy can fix. The titles that once carried weight feel strangely useless. The influence that once opened doors offers no comfort. In moments like these, we learn what it means to come before God without status, without pretense, and without answers—only purpose.
When King Hezekiah received news that threatened the nation, his first response wasn’t to call on political power or military strength:
“He tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and went into the house of the Lord.” Isaiah 37:1
He approached God not as a king, but humbly, honestly, and aware that his help had to come from above. Humbling ourselves before God means acknowledging that our trust cannot be in titles or positions.
When we lay aside who we think we are, we begin work in purpose to call God’s attention. There was no way for God to ignore King Hezekiah because, in that moment, he wasn’t a king; he was a soul in need. If you are in need, go into God’s house and with your purpose, call His attention.
May the God of the Bible bless you!
