Nowadays it’s more common to go to a funeral than to a wedding! In fact, the death care industry generates $20 billion dollars a year in revenues in the United States.
Whilst this may be shocking, death itself is not. Death comes to us all, it cannot be avoided and shouldn’t be feared. As it is written,
“And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,” Hebrews 9:27
What should be feared is not separation from this world but separation from God.
As we go through life, we experience many different kinds of separation – it starts right at birth when the umbilical cord is cut and we are separated from our birth mother. Then it’s a series of events thrown at us by life: graduation, moving out from the family home and of course relationship break-ups. All of these incidents of separation are common – part of life, and nothing to be feared.
Separation from God however, is something totally different. Imagine a life without God – well, you don’t even have to imagine it. Just look around and you’ll see what a life without God is: pain, chaos, uncertainty and pure evil. How does one thrive in such circumstances?
They don’t.
Do you ever feel as though you are struggling to go through life alone? Do problems seem to always get the upper hand over you? Perhaps it’s time to do a self-check-up and see if you are drifting away (or totally separated) from God.
How can you ensure that you do not face being separated from God? By developing your relationship with Jesus, meditating on His Word and seeking His Holy Spirit. Make this your priority, the Holy Spirit inside of you is the total opposite of death and separation, it’s life and unity – like a marriage!
Let’s not add to the spiritual death industry but rather make sure we are not separated from God and then fight to help others to also come out of this type of separation (but that’s a whole new blog post!)
May the God of the Bible bless you
