Music is everywhere. It plays while we scroll, drive, clean, or just stand in an elevator. Most of the time, we don’t even think twice about what’s playing—we simply enjoy the sound or the beat. But if we’re honest, music does more than fill silence. It affects our emotions, our thoughts, and sometimes even our values. Have you ever noticed how a song can change your mood, remind you of a person or time in your life, or even change your attitude without you realizing it?

Just as in everything in life, we have to be aware of how it can affect our souls. The Bible reminds us to be intentional about what we allow to influence us:

“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23

Lyrics that glorify anger, immorality, pride, or sadness can slowly pull our thoughts away from God’s thoughts—even if the beat sounds good. Over time, what we repeatedly hear can affect how we speak, how we treat others, and how we see ourselves. That’s why guarding our hearts includes guarding our ears.

Let’s ask the honest questions: Does this song draw me closer to God or farther away? Does it feed peace or stir up sadness and bad thoughts?
When we choose music that aligns with faith, we show diligence. And those choices, though they seem small, can make a big difference in our salvation.

May the God of the Bible bless you!
