Most of us don’t wake up in the morning thinking, “Today, I think I’ll choose darkness.” Real life comes at us unexpectedly, and our choices are a result of who we choose to serve. The choices usually seem small. Do I do what’s right—or what’s easier? Do I scroll a little longer—or stop to pray and read the Bible?
Jesus speaks directly to this tension in Matthew 6:24:
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
We all have choices to make. Trying to live in the light while keeping one foot comfortably planted in the shadows ultimately means it is a life of darkness. Light leads toward truth, freedom, and salvation. Darkness is a straight path to destruction. And the tricky part is that darkness often disguises itself as “practical,” “necessary,” or “just for now.”
Choosing the light can look like honesty when lying would be easier. Choosing what is right even when no one’s watching. It’s choosing to align your life with the Word of God, even when it costs you. A divided life doesn’t exist. You can’t move in two directions at once.
Every day, we choose who we’ll serve. The good news? Light is always available. One choice at a time.
May the God of the Bible bless you!
