Life is full of boomerang effects. You will notice that even our daily actions evoke consequences. For example, if you go to work, at the end of a week or two, you receive a paycheck. When you are hungry and you eat, you eliminate that hunger. The list goes on, of course. I’m sure there are a few things that instantly popped into your head.

This cause-and-effect is not by chance. Like the majority of things in our life, it is biblically based. In fact, the word of God teaches us that when we give, we receive.

“Give, and it will be given to you….” Luke 6:38

Just as with every word spoken by our Lord Jesus, He did not just preach it but also left us an example of giving. When the Lord Jesus washed the disciples’ feet (John 13), that was a great example of Him giving to others. And in return, He received a much greater gift when a woman fell at His feet, washing them with costly perfume and drying them with her hair (Luke 7).

Yes, it is easier and, at times, even more satisfying to receive, but as disciples of the Lord Jesus, we must follow His example and give as He gave. When we give forgiveness, patience, a helping hand, or even a word of prayer on behalf of someone else, we can be sure that God is preparing for us to receive. Perhaps you have just been receiving as of late, but find a moment this week to give to someone else, as Jesus gave to His disciples.

May the God of the Bible bless you!
