When we hear, “Do not kill,” we can quickly think of the traditional weapons people use to do so. We think of the act of physically hurting someone, but we forget that there is a weapon right now on each of us that can do just as much harm.

There are some with a tongue as sharp as a spear—Their words pierce like a sword. In moments of anger, deceit, and betrayal, it’s human nature to become vengeful. When we feel we have been done wrong, our rage rises to the surface, but left unchecked, it can lead to violent and sometimes irreversible actions.

King David had an opportunity to harm those who sought to kill him. However, he chose a different path. Let us follow in his example.

“You shall not murder.” Exodus 20:13

When you think of it, don’t just think of the physical; remember to keep away from the words that can harm the soul.

May the God of the Bible bless you,
