Consider this simple example. A person who relies on a map while traveling stays on course because they check it regularly. If they stop consulting it, even for a short time, they can drift off track without realizing it. The longer they go without correction, the further they move from their intended destination. Returning to the map doesn’t require starting over—it simply requires re-adjusting focus.

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” — Psalm 91:1

This “secret place” is not a physical location, but a consistent action of remaining in relationship with Him through prayer, His Word, and obedience. It is not something visited occasionally, but rather a place where a believer chooses to dwell.

To dwell means to stay in His presence. A life with God is meant to be ongoing.

Nowadays, you see many people step away from God. For them, attending church is no longer important. Prayer becomes occasional. Reading the Bible is set aside. Often, this happens gradually and without much notice. Life “gets in the way.” Yet the invitation of Psalm 91 remains unchanged: return and dwell.

If you have stepped away from God, then begin again. The secret place is not hidden from you; it is simply waiting for your return.
Dwelling in the presence of God is not about emotion or momentary inspiration. It is about steady commitment. And in that commitment, there is both security and peace.

May the God of the Bible bless you!
