Everything is new for a while. A new baby eventually becomes elderly. A new phone is only new until a newer model is released. A new car is only new until it drives off the lot. Even a new relationship is only new until the first date is over.
Material things work for a while, until they don’t. Eventually, the newness fades, and the excitement settles, and then it’s back to life as usual. This is why our joy cannot depend on things or even people. Because when tough times come, we discover a truth many of us spend years overlooking: only God can satisfy the places within us that nothing else can reach.
Psalm 107:9 says, “For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.”
People can support us, but they can’t complete us. Achievements can excite us, but they can’t satisfy us long-term. Even the best things in life can’t heal what’s broken or feed what’s starving in the soul.
But God can.
He satisfies the longing soul—not by giving us everything we want, but by becoming everything we need. He fills us with goodness in ways that circumstances or hardships can’t take away. His peace eliminates anxiety; His Spirit fulfills us when physical things can’t.
When nothing else works, God doesn’t fail. If you have been feeling empty, it’s time to take a step back and seek the only One who can fill that hunger your soul is experiencing.
May the God of the Bible bless you!
